Energy efficiency is key to our plans. Around one-third of our carbon footprint comes from our homes and so reducing the amount of energy we use by insulating and switching things off is very important.  Below is a bit more information on some of our ideas for energy efficiency, you can still give us feedback through our online survey (Click Here to take survey):

Home visits by trained advisors: there’s a lot of advice out there on how to be more energy efficient. An energy audit of your home by a trained advisor may reveal something that could go a long way to reducing your energy bills and save you money. This is the key focus of our Home Energy Project.

Reducing your energy use: we want to give people more information on ways to reduce the amount of energy they use. We can only meet our demand for energy with renewables if we all use less. Using only what we need should be our top priority and we can help give you advice.

Monitoring energy consumption:
the first step to getting control of our energy consumption is to find out what we’re using. Using energy monitors and taking regular meter readings helps you to see how much the changes you’re making are saving.

Thermal imaging surveys: this technology provides an unrivalled insight into how a building loses heat. The follow-up report will highlight areas of your home that need to be addressed and also show the benefits of some of the more straightforward measures – you’ll never leave your curtains open again!

Insulating your home: it’s vital that we put as much insulation into our homes as possible. There is funding available for cavity wall and loft insulation. Remember – if you have a cavity, fill it and if you have less than 27cm of loft insulation, then top up. Many of us live in houses that are harder to treat. Solid walls can be insulated internally and externally, but you may want advice on what you can do in your own home.

Draught-proofing your home: all those small draughts can add up to a lot of heat loss. We want to help you plug the gaps and keep more warmth in your home.

Using your heating efficiently: many of us could be making better use of our heating. We can help you set your timer correctly and adjust your thermostats to stop energy being wasted.

Drop-in energy advice centre: we are available at any time if you have a question on energy. Come in and find out how you can start saving money on your fuel bills.
