Alness Transition Town Group held a special event in the Averon Centre on Friday 27th November to celebrate why Alness is an environmentally-friendly place to live and to explore ways to make our community even more sustainable.

"Environmentalness: power in our community!" was not only a chance to find out more about the challenges of climate change and peak oil, but also a celebration of all the local projects that have already helped Alness reduce its carbon footprint and dependence on fossil fuels. Most importantly, it was an opportunity for locals to meet and discuss ideas that could help the transition of Alness into a low-carbon community.

Everyone who came along was given five Alness eco-pounds to ‘invest’ in the themes of the event that they felt were most important, either energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste and recycling, local food or sustainable transport. Alness Transition Town Group would like to remind everyone that shops are unlikely to accept any unspent eco-pounds!

ATTG's Community Powerdown Officer, Peter Elbourne, was excited about the response:

“It was great to see so many people with a passion for the environment come together and get involved in the decision making process. We will use all the feedback to work out which projects would best suit Alness and then go on to apply for further funding from the Climate Challenge Fund early in the new year.”
