Our society can be quite wasteful, but the "reduce, reuse, recycle" message is becoming more widely accepted and understood. Alness Transition Town Group have a few ideas on how we can minimise the waste we generate and better reuse and recycle. Remember that you can vote on which of our ideas are of most interest to you by taking our survey (Click Here to take survey). We are lucky enough to already have Ross-shire Waste Action Network working on these issues and they are the people to get in touch with for advice on recycling and composting (www.rowan.org.uk).
- Swap-your-junk event. This would be an event in Alness where you could bring along some of the things that you don't use or need any more. In return, you may find something that you could use. Everything left over could go to another event elsewhere in the town or it could be donated to charity.
- Community composting. Many people don't have the room to compost in their own garden. Establishing a community composting scheme would divert a lot of biodegradable waste from landfill and provide fertile growing media for the allotments.
- More recycling centres. If you think that there aren't enough recycling points near you, then we may be able to help campaign for the Council to put more in.
