Alness Transition Town Group was established in 2008 with an objective to raise awareness of the twin challenges of Peak Oil and Climate Change and to provide the necessary encouragement and support to help Alness evolve into a sustainable community.
In 2009, Alness Transition Town Group became part of the Community Powerdown consortium: a network of twenty-six Scottish villages, towns and islands that are all working towards reducing their dependence on fossil fuels and emissions of greenhouse gases. Alness Transition Town Group’s Community Powerdown Officer is developing projects on the themes of energy, local food, travel and waste. Community Powerdown is funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund and is supported by Community Energy Scotland and the Development Trust Association Scotland.
